Awards & Honors
2001-2004

Anders Rydaker being awarded the Prestigious Energy Prize for his achievements in energy conservation technology at a ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden (2001).

Engineering Excellence Award (2004)

American Council of Engineering Companies of Minnesota
The American Council of Engineering Companies of Minnesota (ACEC/MN) presented an Engineering Excellence Award to Hallberg Engineering and District Energy St. Paul for the design and construction of a new cooling plant and chilled water storage tank located northeast of Saint Paul's central business district. Presented annually by ACEC/MN, the awards recognize engineering achievements which demonstrate the highest degree of merit, value and ingenuity. Operation of the new cooling plant enables District Energy to expand its service area while improving the efficiency and reliability of its current district cooling system.

Swedish Prestigious Energy Prize (2003)

SWECO Theorells and Dagens Industri
Anders Rydaker, president of District Energy St. Paul and Market Street Energy Company (now Ever-Green Energy), was awarded the Prestigious Energy Prize for his achievements in energy conservation technology at a ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden. The Prestigious Energy Prize is awarded to individuals, companies or organizations that have made a significant impact on improving structural energy conservation.

Rydaker started his career in Sweden, and in 1983 he helped start District Energy St. Paul. In a brief return to Sweden in the early 1990s, Rydaker developed the nation's first commercial district cooling system. There are now more than 30 of these systems operating in Sweden, and Stockholm's system is the largest in Europe. Many of these systems are based on Rydaker's idea of using cold, deep seawater or lake water as the energy source, reducing electrical usage by up to 90 percent.

Presidential Citation (2001)

President George W. Bush
President George W. Bush praised District Energy St. Paul as a model of energy efficiency, diversity and affordability. The President's remarks were part of a major energy policy speech delivered at RiverCentre in Saint Paul following the President's tour of District Energy. District Energy St. Paul "is a model of energy efficiency," said President Bush. "It is also a model of energy diversity. It uses conventional fuels like oil and natural gas and coal, and renewable fuels like wood chips. And the plant is a model of affordability. While other energy prices rise, District Energy has not raised its heating and cooling rates in four years."
